The Giant Cup 7 is being held today on the 6th of September and Slidestar will make sure you won't miss a thing! Will we see Frostbeule take 4 in a row? Or will a new champion reign as the competition has increased!
Though many players had to cancel including the favourite Karjen, who had the best papers to win this cup. Other cancellations includes the likes of JWH and GuiGui. However this cup is still packed with names like PeZi, Legend and Tannis to go for gold!
Sadly the administration couldn't get a hold of the admin for Maniacup and therefore this system will not be used. As solution the servers and relays will be hosted by Trackmania.se and there are some rule changes.
In order to keep the 6 rounds per map rule, the system used will be cupmode. However with a large Point Limit to make sure no player will reach it and the match will just end after 3 maps has been played. So the actual cupmode system will not be used, which sure will be a relief to some players.
The 4th and last Giant Cup 7 qualification tournament ended this
Sunday. This time the highly praised ManiaCup system wasn't used
because the only person who got control over ManiaCup, Slig, was
not present, so the other admins had to do the tournament in the old
school way (that means Rounds mode, pointlimit 41).
All in all, 40 players participated, the tournament started only 1 hour later
without much trouble except finding servers, and we got to see 8 more players qualifying for
the playoffs.

The fight was on this afternoon when Frostbeule, Karjen, TekNizzle and Luode battled it out for a slot and ticket to China. Most of all this was a battle between the 2 potential WCG winners Karjen and Frostbeule.
Karjen seemed to have a struggling start but quickly came back in his dominating pattern and on WCG-Mecas he did 4 rounds within 0.20 of the world record in a row! He kept on building his lead till he reached the Finalist status. This gave Frostbeule a chance to fight back and so he did. He won 2 rounds in a row and 1 of those rounds was even 0.01 infront of Karjen, beating him in the last corner! But Frostbeule got stuck at 90 points out of 100 as in the very last run it was Karjen who remained cool and kept the lead.
So that concludes probably one of the most important qualifiers, one of the 2 title favourites is out! Big congratulations to Karjen.
UPDATE !!!
We have just recieved info that Frostbeule has a chance to go the WCG in China afterall! They have decided to give him an oppertunity to go, however he will have to finance the whole trip and license to enter himself. Source: Trackmania.se
The BYOC qualifiers have been played yesterday and it was a battle between TekNizzle, Kurre and Luode. The match was close till the end and Luode was the first finalist and finished it in style. Kurre was the second to become Finalist but TekNizzle built up a comeback and took straight wins to become the 2nd winner.
Meanwhile Karjen and Frostbeule have arrived at the venue and this grand final is set to start at 13:00 CETToday. Relays are setup and ofcourse hosted by trackmania.se once again. See below for the links, or go ingame and look for Trackmania.se Relay's in Sweden and join as Spectator.
The first 2 Finalists for the WCG Qualifications Sweden were known already, namely Karjen and Frostbeule. To accompany these 2 will be 2 more players that will qualify by a tournament behind held today, on the 13th of August. This WCG Sweden National Qualifier is a tournament being played at Dreamhack Stockholm and is a BYOC competition, so players will have to take their own computer.
So far confirmed to enter this BYOC competition are Luode and Kurre. However we have just recieved the news that TekNizzle is also entering at the very last moment! This makes the qualifier a little more interesting as now there are 3 potential winners to go to the Nation finals on the 14th of August!
This cup will start with TA Seedings at 19:00 CET today and relays will be hosted by trackmania.se.
The World Cyber Games qualifications for Sweden are probably one of the most important qualifiers to follow and the finals will take place on the 28th of August. With only 1 slot available, the chances are that the current leader of the world rankings may not even set foot on Chinese soil. It will ofcourse be another battle between Karjen and Frostbeule, but this time there will be only 1 prize to take.
To join these 2 Swedish there will be 2 more who will qualify by a BYOC lan 2 days before the Finals. Players such as Kurre and Luode have been confirmed to participate so far and maybe TekNizzle will enter this too. However it is most certain that the fight will be between the 2 giants, but we're always up for upsets and anything can happen!
Slidestar has taken the liberty to ask Karjen a few questions to have some insight on how he looks forward to this happening, Read more!
The eXperience was being held on the 27th of July, but was only finished on the 28th! The day turned out in an Endurance and drove all players to their limits.
The most interesting matches were being played well after midnight and not many people could watch as it was during a normal weekday. But luckily Unky from GoodGame.ru and also player from the russian formation o-Q, was able to capture this all! Normally he is recording for casts for GoodGame.ru but this time there were no casters available so the VOD's are without commentary, but instead with some music playing the background. Another thing is that the recording was done on the actual match servers rather than Relays, so you can enjoy a lagfree and relay spamfree VOD!
Earlier today it was revealed that the popular e-sport brand
ESWC has been bought up by a person named Stéphane Cosse, the head of DIP
Communication and DIP Organization - an indoor and outdoor event organizer from
France. ESWC used to be owned by the company Game-Services who went bankrupt earlier this year.
Apart from just the brand, they also got the urls www.eswc.com and www.esworldcup.com included in the deal. Cosse, who has been involved in other controversial e-sport projects in the past, bought the ESWC brand for 50,000€.
It is still unclear what the new owners intentions are. Time will tell if TMNF will be a part of their plan.
AFTT stands for Asp Full Tech Tournament. The first edition got won by Formula Fight, but this edition has gone more international and attracted alot of great teams to the battle! The period this tournament is running seems also perfect, right inbetween 2 ESL Premiership Seasons.
This cup has been going for about 1 month now and we're in the Playoff stages now. Where we can find a few interesting names on the board. Arguably the favourites to take the win are Celsus, RAPTOR ( as 2½ Men ) or Ze Norwegians which features some talented Norwegians including Bergie. UBI Team also entered this cup but divided into 2 teams who still pack a few great players inorder to compete. The brand new Four Kings lineup has also made it to the Playoffs which is their first real test in their new lineup. A possible surprise is the GoD lineup beating Ze Norwegians in a fairly tight battle, however it seemed that the motivation on the Norwegian side hasn't been the greatest in preparation for this duel.
This past weekend, 1st and 2nd of august, the Nation Finals of Germany to qualify for the WCG has been played. This was being held during the Leipzig Games Convention over the course of 2 days.
In the finals it came down to Gallo, BomBe, Ice and JayD. Gallo managed to benefit from his Winner Bracket advantage and maintained his lead for the whole match and so he became the first winner. Showing why he has been recruited recently by SK-Gaming.
Ice also had this advantage however BomBe managed to close this gap and made it a great race for the 2nd WCG Ticket! BomBe then managed to overtake Ice and finished it off as his first round as Finalist. So the 2nd ticket was gained by BomBe.
The 3rd Giant Cup 7 qualification tournament took place this saturday, once again using the new tournament system ManiaCup. This time we saw a decreasing number of players participating. Only about 30 players showed up this time compared to around 40 last week.
Despite that, there were alot of top players participating this week compared to the previous tournaments, and we saw alot of close matches.
