With Niklas 'SK|Sliver' Timmermann, an outstanding personality
of the virtual racing scene has announced he wants to represent Germany
at the World Cyber Games this year.
This doesn't sound any weird and special at all, considering he has
already won the tournament in 2004 and has represented Germany a few
times more at the Grand Finals already. Besides his countless
successes, he could also manage to win the Samsung European
Championship in 2005, 2006 and 2008.
Being contracted at SK since this year, he will from now on try to earn
titles and wins for his new home by being the fastest on the road. All
the worse it must have been for him to hear that Need for Speed won't
be an official game of the WCG this year. But nevertheless one of his
goals is obviously still winning the Gold Medal at this spectacular
eSports-event. We caught him for a short interview where he kindly
answered kaLi's questions about him and the WCG 2009.
You might ask yourself now: "Okay, but that has nothing to do with TrackMania?!"
It's the best if you take a look and click on Read more!
Andreas 'kaLi' Karlsberger: Hello Sliver! In the world of racing games you're a big
personality for years now, though you might not be known by the
majority of the TrackMania community - so could you please introduce
yourself shortly!
Niklas 'Sliver' Timmermann: Hi! My name is Niklas Timmermann aka
Sliver, i'm 21 years young and i am currently playing several racing
games for SK Gaming.
kaLi: I've heard rumours, that you are thinking about changing to
TrackMania Nations Forever to represent Germany at the WCG. How certain
is your decision in this case already?
Can this guy be
any danger?
Sliver: Well, the rumours aren't completely wrong, but i need to stay
realistic and I have to ascertain that it will be very hard to equate
the big experience of the top players within such a short time.
kaLi: How much are you already now training TMN? Are you already in the
middle of your WCG preparation or are you still waiting until you know
for sure that you'll try to qualify for the Grand Final?
Sliver: At the moment i'm only racing a bit in the VRTCC, because my
study is taking most of my time. But as soon as the WCG announces its
rules I will train hard and then decide whether I'll attend the
tournament.
kaLi: How realistic are your chances to qualify for the Grand Final if
there are one, two or maybe three slots to take in Germany?
Sliver: I think it will be very hard to train the important timing that
is needed in TrackMania, nevertheless I will, if I find the time,
invest a lot of time and heart's blood in my training!
"Gotta catch 'em all!"
kaLi: Seeing you have been that successful so far in your eSports
career especially in NFS, how are your own expectations for an event
like this? Would you be satisfied with a good 5th place at the National
Final in TMN or do you always want to win everything?
Sliver: My goal of course is to qualify for the Grand Final. A 4th
place or similar would be a disappointment. But if I see earlier
already that there's just too much space between the top players and
me, I will desist from attending the event.
kaLi: Do you actually already have an imagination of which drivers you
will probably face at a WCG National Final and who the hardest
opponents would be, or don't you have any idea yet of the TMN-scene?
Sliver: I am in that case not very informed yet. I only know from
Pascal (Note: gaLLo), who i still know from NFS, that he is very good.
kaLi: I want to thank you for your time and this short interview and
wish you good luck for your further career. Maybe you even discover a
passion for TrackMania and I want to let you say the last words!
Will he raise the German flag
again after the WCG?
Sliver: I hope, even if it isn't nice, that TMNF will soon be replaced at the WCG by a steering wheel game again. ;)
It's obvious that he is somehow quite sceptic concerning his goals and
chances for the WCG this year, but is it basically possible for one of
the best virtual racers to reach a top level in TrackMania in such a
short amount of time? There's no doubt that he's got a better basis for
such a purpose compared to most of all other drivers out there.
However, the question somehow is: Can we actually compare TMN with any
other racing games like Need for Speed? Just imagine he manages to
qualify for the Grand Final and TrackMania would still be played on
many big events in the future - a lot racing stars of today would train
overnight trying to rule TMN as they are dominating their games
nowadays. He definitely will be a showpiece of the matter if it is
possible to change to TMN without problems, or not. If he demonstrates
that it is possible for high skilled racers, Frostbeule will get some
serious opponents for the place of the No.1 driver worldwide!
Only time can tell us.
