Sliver - SK's hope for the WCG Gold Medal PDF Print
Written by kaLi

kat_iview_01.pngWith Niklas 'SK|Sliver' Timmermann, an outstanding personality of the virtual racing scene has announced he wants to represent Germany at the World Cyber Games this year.
This doesn't sound any weird and special at all, considering he has already won the tournament in 2004 and has represented Germany a few times more at the Grand Finals already. Besides his countless successes, he could also manage to win the Samsung European Championship in 2005, 2006 and 2008.
Being contracted at SK since this year, he will from now on try to earn titles and wins for his new home by being the fastest on the road. All the worse it must have been for him to hear that Need for Speed won't be an official game of the WCG this year. But nevertheless one of his goals is obviously still winning the Gold Medal at this spectacular eSports-event. We caught him for a short interview where he kindly answered kaLi's questions about him and the WCG 2009.
You might ask yourself now: "Okay, but that has nothing to do with TrackMania?!"
It's the best if you take a look and click on Read more!

Andreas 'kaLi' Karlsberger: Hello Sliver! In the world of racing games you're a big personality for years now, though you might not be known by the majority of the TrackMania community - so could you please introduce yourself shortly!

Niklas 'Sliver' Timmermann: Hi! My name is Niklas Timmermann aka Sliver, i'm 21 years young and i am currently playing several racing games for SK Gaming.

kaLi: I've heard rumours, that you are thinking about changing to TrackMania Nations Forever to represent Germany at the WCG. How certain is your decision in this case already?

Niklas 'Sliver' Timmermann
Can this guy be
any danger?
Sliver: Well, the rumours aren't completely wrong, but i need to stay realistic and I have to ascertain that it will be very hard to equate the big experience of the top players within such a short time.

kaLi: How much are you already now training TMN? Are you already in the middle of your WCG preparation or are you still waiting until you know for sure that you'll try to qualify for the Grand Final?

Sliver: At the moment i'm only racing a bit in the VRTCC, because my study is taking most of my time. But as soon as the WCG announces its rules I will train hard and then decide whether I'll attend the tournament.

kaLi: How realistic are your chances to qualify for the Grand Final if there are one, two or maybe three slots to take in Germany?

Sliver: I think it will be very hard to train the important timing that is needed in TrackMania, nevertheless I will, if I find the time, invest a lot of time and heart's blood in my training!

Pokesliver
"Gotta catch 'em all!"
kaLi: Seeing you have been that successful so far in your eSports career especially in NFS, how are your own expectations for an event like this? Would you be satisfied with a good 5th place at the National Final in TMN or do you always want to win everything?

Sliver: My goal of course is to qualify for the Grand Final. A 4th place or similar would be a disappointment. But if I see earlier already that there's just too much space between the top players and me, I will desist from attending the event.

ka
Li: Do you actually already have an imagination of which drivers you will probably face at a WCG National Final and who the hardest opponents would be, or don't you have any idea yet of the TMN-scene?

Sliver: I am in that case not very informed yet. I only know from Pascal (Note: gaLLo), who i still know from NFS, that he is very good.

kaLi: I want to thank you for your time and this short interview and wish you good luck for your further career. Maybe you even discover a passion for TrackMania and I want to let you say the last words!

Sliver
Will he raise the German flag
again after the WCG?
Sliver: I hope, even if it isn't nice, that TMNF will soon be replaced at the WCG by a steering wheel game again. ;)

It's obvious that he is somehow quite sceptic concerning his goals and chances for the WCG this year, but is it basically possible for one of the best virtual racers to reach a top level in TrackMania in such a short amount of time? There's no doubt that he's got a better basis for such a purpose compared to most of all other drivers out there. However, the question somehow is: Can we actually compare TMN with any other racing games like Need for Speed? Just imagine he manages to qualify for the Grand Final and TrackMania would still be played on many big events in the future - a lot racing stars of today would train overnight trying to rule TMN as they are dominating their games nowadays. He definitely will be a showpiece of the matter if it is possible to change to TMN without problems, or not. If he demonstrates that it is possible for high skilled racers, Frostbeule will get some serious opponents for the place of the No.1 driver worldwide!

This will be fun to see. Seeing the way he answers it's quite clear that he will
fail .

This game ain't like the NFS series that renews every year, this game
has players that been playing for 3 years at the top.
FrostBeule   |2009-05-05 15:00:57
it will be almost impossible probably in this short amount of time, it's such
different games. but i'd be happy if he could prove me wrong nice interview

Well... I hope that he will manage to reach a top level in Trackmania. Why? I
think it is important for Trackmania to be interesting for new players!

Also I
hope that he will fail. Why? Especially this sentence: "Sliver: I hope, even
if it isn't nice, that TMNF will soon be replaced at the WCG by a steering wheel
game again. ;)" makes me pretty angry about him. We will see how far he can
get.
Gamble   |2009-05-05 15:24:08
Probably it is going to be a tendency in racing games world - some russian NFS
professionals started to play TMNF as well ^^
Though don't think anybody can
succeed in that
d4rkknight   |2009-05-05 15:24:53
he will change to trackmania, if he sees a chance to win pricemoney, not because
he likes the game...

he'll fail anyway
kaLi   |2009-05-05 15:29:06
maybe he starts to love the game as we do even?
franbe   |2009-05-05 15:35:59
well, im laughing so much
Ok nice to see a new player in the tmnf scene, but
tm isnt an arcade game like nfs, its a real HARD game which need many hours of
training.
Maybe he is a pro-gamer in some racing game, but tm is a bit different
i think...
wait & see

Yazeed > sliver for me
BlackPhoenix   |2009-05-05 15:44:40

fail, if they can get to the german national final

You can understand why he would say that though. If I was him, I would
obviously want one of my games to be selected again, especially since
he seems to be a top player. Its not an attack at trackmania.

He
obviously hasn't got much of a chance to catch the top players though xD
even though he could probably learn the game as fast as anybody.
Chapo   |2009-05-06 11:01:02
I understand what you mean pHO, but even if he really thought it, he shouldn't
have made his opinion public. It can only give bad feelings towards him from the
whole TMNF community (which actually happened).
Anyway he won't succeed in this
short amount of time imo.
kaLi   |2009-05-06 11:35:38
when i held the interview he also said afterwards that he's curious already what
the reaction to his last sentence will be
i think he knows exactly what he said
and meant everything that way
i can understand that even tho it's not nice for
every single tmnf player, and in my opinion it definitely takes longer to master
this game and compete on the highest level but i, for my part, also wanna see
him try because if he proofs us all wrong we probably will have to face a lot of
new tmnf-players in the future that just changed from other racing games
